Women's Soccer Celebrated Sophomores
Eleven sophomores from the Eagle men's and women's soccer teams were celebrated when they hosted Butte on Nov. 3rd.
It was the final day of the season for the women's team because Lassen did not have a team this fall. Sophomores recognized prior to the games were announced by athletic coordinator/eligibility specialist Kevin Bradford II along with their hometown, favorite COS soccer memory and plans for the future.
This year's women's soccer sophomores and their responses are:
Isabella Escobedo, Weed. Our winning game in Gilroy. Want to focus more on a career after this semester.
Sofia Iampolskaia, Vladivostok, Russia. Making friends for a lifetime getting an opportunity to play at college with no experience in soccer. The trips with the team are always so much fun! Transferring for a biology degree.
Lani Jackson, Chiloquin, OR. Traveling with the team and bonding with my teammates and coaches. Working my fifth year with the Forest Service as a wildlife firefighter.
Natalia Paredes, Mexico City. All the memories I had in soccer were fun, I think the most fun thing is playing with my team in the games and connecting with my team. If everything goes good with my knee l'm planning to go to CSU.
Asia Hendrix, McCloud. Coach Ed flossing to Knife Talk and dabbing at Carter. Transferring to a university to continue my veterinary career and possibly play sports.
The women's team, shorthanded for much of the season, won just once in the GVC, a 4-1 victory at home against Redwoods Sept. 26th. Other than that, and a 4-0 win at Gavilan in their final pre-season match, goals were limited.
They tied with Redwoods in the standings behind Lake Tahoe (10-0), Butte (8-2), Shasta (5-4), and Feather River (4-5).
Haley Chapman of Weed finished the season far above other GVC goalies with 131 saves, and she ranked fourth in save percentage at .624.
Alexa Luquin of Mount Shasta led the women's team with 5 goals and 10 points, while Abigail Escobedo of Weed had 4 goals and 10 points.
Isabella Escobedo had 1 goal and 2 assists, Sophia Coleman had 2 assists, and Asia Hendrix had an assist.
Hendrix, Abigail Escobedo, and Elyssa Harrison started all 17 Eagle games, Chapman and Luquin started 16 each, Isabella Escobedo, Litzy Ochoa-Garcia, and Natalia Paredes started 15 each, Sophia Coleman 14, and Sofia Iampolskaia and Michelle de la Cruz 11 each.
