Women’s Soccer Team Finds Winning Ways
The Eagle women's soccer team won its second game in a row Tuesday in Weed and evened its conference record at 1-1 with a 4-1 victory over Redwoods.
That win followed Saturday's 4-0 win at Gavilan where midfielder Abigail Escobedo scored two goals and had an assist, forward Isabella Escobedo scored and had an assist, and forward Alexa Luquin scored.
The Eagles led Gavilan 2-0 at half time, and it stayed that way until Abigail scored at the 81 and 84-minute marks, the first on an assist from defender Asia Hendrix, the second on an assist from sister Isabella.
Goalkeeper Haley Chapman was credited with 2 saves on Gavilan's only 2 shots on goal.
It was a welcome win for a young Eagles team that had scored just once during a streak of 5 consecutive losses, all on the road.
Returning home Tuesday, Chapman had a busy day with 10 saves on 11 shots on goal while the offense scored 3 times in the first 26 minutes and added another score late in the second half.
Midfielder Sophia Coleman assisted on the first two scores, one by Abigail Escobedo and one by Alexa Luquin. Abigail then scored unassisted, and Luquin added the final goal on an assist by Isabella Escobedo.
The Eagles are on the road again until hosting Shasta College Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
