Eagle Softball Extends Winning Streak to 6
The Eagle softball team continued its winning ways by sweeping a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader at Mendocino Tuesday, 9-1 and 15-1.
That made it 6 wins in a row and 7 wins in their last 8 games for the Eagles, who are now scheduled to finish their season with four Golden Valley Conference home games: two on Friday against Redwoods and two on Saturday against Butte. Games start at noon both days.
The games at Mendocino, postponed in early March because of weather, both featured big innings by the Eagle offense. They scored 7 runs in the 5th inning of game one, 6 runs in the 1st inning of game two and 7 runs in the 3rd inning of game two.
Pitcher Kristina Lesher limited Mendocino to 1 run on 5 hits over 4 innings in the opener, but the Eagles held a slim 2-1 lead before pulling away in the top of the 5th.
Their 7-run rally started with a run-scoring single by Katelyn Weber that brought home Shyla Mead. After Abigail Wolf scored when Olivia Dedmon walked with the bases loaded, Bre Cox doubled to drive in Maddalyn Fullenwider and Alexis Figueroa. Halliday Hubbard's second double of the game drove in Dedmon and Cox, and Mead doubled to drive in Hubbard.
Elyse Benson's two-run single had given the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the second inning, scoring Fullenwider and Figueroa.
Leea Brown pitched the final inning.
Eagle hitters kept their momentum going into the first inning of game two helped by Hannah Stone's RBI single, a two-run double by Samantha Ray, and a few Mendocino fielding miscues.
During their 7-run third inning rally, Abigail Wolf and Olivia Dedmon both had two-run singles, while Samantha Ray and Elyse Benson both singled to drive in a run.
Ray went 3 for 3 In game two with a walk, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Hubbard, Wolf, Dedmon, and Benson had 2 hits each, and Alicia Chavez singled and scored 3 times.
Kaitlin Estes pitched 3 innings, allowing one run on 5 hits while striking out 3 and walking none. Gracie Copeland struck out 3 in the final 2 innings and gave up just 1 hit and a walk.
