The Eagle softball team finished a very busy week with four straight conference wins over Lassen, 2 on their home field Friday in Weed and 2 at Lassen on Saturday.
After starting the week losing twice to Feather River in their first two home games of the season April 11, the Eagles split a home doubleheader against Shasta the next day.
They gave their home fans a lot to cheer about during Friday's 8-1 and 9-0 wins over Lassen and followed that with two more lopsided wins in Susanville, 12-0 and 9-1. All four wins featured good pitching, error-free defense, and a lineup that produced double-digit hit totals.
The Eagles scored their 8 runs on 13 hits in Friday's first game, and starting pitcher Kristina Lesher allowed just one run on 8 hits with no walks in the first 6 innings. Abigail Marines then retired the side in order in the 7th.
At the plate, Eva Versloot was 4 for 4, scored twice and drove in a run; Breanne Cox doubled and drove in 3; Halliday Hubbard was 3 for 5 with an RBI; and Nevaeh Atchley went 2 for 4 and drove in 2.
Leea Brown pitched a 5-inning, 5-hit shutout in Friday's second game, while Shyla Mead had 3 of the Eagles' 12 hits, including a triple and 5 RBIs. Nevaeh Atchley was 2 for 2 and scored twice; Alexis Figueroa was 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs; and Olivia Dedmon and Hannah Stone both singled and drove in a run.
Both of Saturday's games went just 5 innings. Abigail Marines pitched a 5-hit shutout in the opener with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk; and Kaitlin Estes allowed just 3 hits and 1 run while walking 2 in game two.
The Eagles scored their 12 runs on 14 hits in the opener with Eva Versloot going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, while Alexis Figueroa and Breanne Cox both had 2 hits and scored twice, and Shyla Mead singled and scored twice.
Maddalyn Fullenwider had 3 of the Eagles' 10 hits in Saturday's second game and drove in 3; Olivia Dedmon singled, doubled, and scored twice; Abigail Wolf singled twice; and Shyla Mead singled and scored twice.
In last Wednesday's 5-4 game-one win over Shasta, the Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the 6th inning to take the lead and held on to win it. Leea Brown pitched the final inning and earned a save. Shortstop Alexis Figueroa recorded the final out, fielding a ground ball up the middle with the bases loaded and getting a force out at second base.
Leadoff batter Halliday Hubbard went 3 for 4 with a triple, scored twice, and drove in the go-ahead run with a single to left field in the 6th inning. Two batters earlier, Eva Versloot doubled to drive in the tying run.
The Eagles had 10 hits in the game, while Shasta had 5.
Winning pitcher Kristina Lesher allowed just one hit and one walk in 2 2/3 innings after Kaitlin Estes gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 4 1/3 innings. Estes got out of a bases loaded jam to preserve a 3-1 Eagles lead in the 4th inning, but Shasta then scored 3 runs in the 5th to take the lead.
Shyla Mead singled and drove in 2 runs for the Eagles, Nevaeh Atchley was 2 for 4 and scored, Maddalyn Fullenwider singled and drove in one, and Olivia Dedmon doubled and scored.
The Eagles lost game two 12-7 as Shasta collected 13 hits and walked 5 times against three Eagle pitchers. Both teams were charged with 5 fielding errors in that game.
Mead was 2 for 3 at the plate and scored twice. She drove in 2 runs with a line drive double to left and came all the way around to score when the ball was misplayed. Hubbard was 2 for 4 and scored twice; Atchley singled and scored twice; Samantha Ray singled and drove in a run; and Katelyn Weber had a sacrifice fly.
This week, the Eagles are scheduled to play two non-conference games at Mendocino on Tuesday before returning home to finish their season with two games against Redwoods on Friday and two against conference-leading Butte on Saturday.
