Eagles Advance to NorCal Finals in Javelin, Triple Jump
Eagle sophomores Aiden Ellis and Teya Amidei qualified last Friday to advance to this Friday's NorCal Finals at Yuba College.
The top six finishers in each field event at the Finals will qualify for the California Community College Athletic Association Championships May 19 and 20 in Modesto.
Aiden, the Golden Valley Conference triple jump champion, set a personal record of 13.49m in triple jump at the Trials and placed 3rd. He placed 8th in javelin at 46.72m.
Teya qualified to advance by placing 10th in women's javelin at 30.17m.
Eagles head coach Julius Jones said that with some good preparation this week Aiden and Teya both have a good chance to reach the state championships.
Aiden already hit the state-qualifying mark for javelin in early March with a throw of 51.09m at the Shasta College's Cody Beaumont Meet.
Jones said both throwers are working on their javelin techniques this week.
As the Eagles' jump coach, Jones said he was looking forward to working one-on-one with Ellis this week with a goal of getting beyond 14m and hitting the state-qualifying mark.
The Eagles have a long history of standout javelin throwers, but this is the first time in a couple years that they have competed in the postseason beyond the GVC Championships.
Also for the Eagles at the Trials, Marcus Dilworth set a PR of 15.76 seconds in the 110 hurdles. His 11th place finish in a field of 26 competitors was just two spots out from qualifying for the Finals.
Dilworth also ran on the Eagles' 4 by 100 relay team with William Allen, Aiden Ellis, and Jarvis McKyer. They set a PR of 45.54 but did not qualify for the Finals.
