Eagles Win Medals, Set PRs at GVC Meet, NorCal Trials Next
The Eagles brought home 12 top-three medals and 18 personal records from the Golden Valley Conference track and field championship meet on a warm and mostly sunny Friday, April 28, at Butte College in Oroville.
Nine Eagles claimed medals for finishing in the top three in their events including four members of the 4 by 100m relay team.
All 15 Eagles who competed contributed to the team scoring totals by earning at least one top-six finish.
Many qualified for this week's NorCal Trials at Yuba College, and top finishers at that event will advance to the NorCal Finals.
Aiden Ellis was the Eagles' only first place finisher at the GVC meet, winning the triple jump with a season-best mark of 13.23m. Ellis also placed third in the javelin, an event in which he set a state-qualifying mark earlier in the season.
Marcus Dilworth won three GVC medals, placing second in the 110m hurdles in 15.78, second in the 400 hurdles in 59.31, and third in the long jump at 6.29m. Dilworth was just .05 seconds out of first place in the 110m hurdles. He also placed 4th in the high jump at 1.65m and teamed with Zane Callison, Chase Callison and Jarvis McKyer for a 4th place finish in the 4 by 400m relay.
Though Eagle pole vaulters had just two weeks of preparation this season, Edric Moroyoqui placed third with a vault of 2.59m and Caleb Ramos was 5th.
Nevin Malchow was third in the triple jump at 9.87m.
The Eagle team of William Allen, Christian Givan, Caleb Ramos, and Jarvis McKyer placed third in the 4 by 100 relay in 46.10.
Siskiyous placed 4th in the GVC men's team standings with 42 points, just 2 points behind third place Shasta College. As expected, Butte College won the men's title with 119 points, while Redwoods was second.
Frances Fleener, one of two Eagle women to compete in the meet, took home a medal for placing 3rd in hammer throw at 26.80m. She was also 4th in shot put at 9.27m and 5th in discus at 21.29m.
Redwoods won the women's team championship.
The other Eagle women's team member, Teya Amidei, has been one of the top javelin throwers in the state this season. She placed 5th in that event at the GVC meet while dealing with some rib soreness.
Also scoring points for the Eagle men, James Coefield was 4th in shot put at 11.66m and 5th in hammer throw at 31.22m; Zane Callison was 5th in the 400m at 1:04.32; William Allen finished 5th in 110 hurdles in 20.47; JeHan King was 5th in discus at 34.21m; and Nevin Malchow was 5th in javelin at 39.51.
Twelve of the 15 Eagles who competed in the conference championships set personal records, and though Aiden Ellis did not set a personal record, he did have a season-best mark on his way to winning the triple jump.
As coach Julius Jones put it, "We want to build a PR city around here."
Personal records were set by:
William Allen in the 100m;
Zane Callison in the 400m and hammer throw;
James Coefield in shot put and hammer throw;
Marcus Dilworth in 110m hurdles, high jump and 400m hurdles;

JeHan King in discus;
Nevin Malchow in triple jump, 100m and javelin;

Moving on to compete in the NorCal Trials are Teya Amidei in javelin; Frances Fleener in shot put and hammer throw; Aiden Ellis in triple jump, javelin, and 4 by 100 relay; Marcus Dilworth in 110m and 400m hurdles and both relays; William Allen and Jarvis McKyer in both relays; and JeHan King in the 4 by 400 relay.
