Scoring opportunities were plentiful throughout, but it wasn't until the second half that the Eagles made them count in a big way during Tuesday's men's soccer conference-opener against visiting Redwoods.
Five Eagles scored one goal apiece in the 5-0 victory, and the defense did its part, limiting the Corsairs to just one shot on goal.
The home team's first-half shots on goal missed the mark until forward Edgar Martinez found the net on an assist by forward Augstin Mateos at the 41-minute mark.
The lead grew to 2-0 early in the second half on a penalty kick by midfielder Benjamin Chandler. Then forward Alfie Snow scored with an assist from Chandler, Mateos scored with an assist from midfielder Lewis White, and Carter Edwards scored in the closing minutes on an assist from Snow.
Goalkeeper Oliver Gregory needed just one save to secure the shutout and help the Eagles snap a six-game losing streak during which they scored just 3 goals while playing away from home.
That followed a 5-4 home win over Woodland Community College in early September which featured 2 goals by Martinez, one goal each by Snow, Chandler, and Mateos, 2 assists by White, and 3 saves by goalie Benjamin Lewis.
The Eagles are back on the road now for nearly a month before returning home to play their final four conference matches starting October 24th against Feather River.
