It's been a long time coming, but the College of the Siskiyous baseball team will finally start playing home games this Tuesday and Wednesday -- and they're scheduled to play many more throughout the month of April.
The Eagles will host Lassen Tuesday at 2 p.m. and Wednesday at noon and 3 p.m. Those three games were postponed because of weather in early March.
The home games will continue with a make-up doubleheader against Feather River on Tuesday, April 18, and single games against Shasta on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22.
Siskiyous will also be home for a doubleheader against Redwoods on Friday, April 28, followed by a season-ending game against Redwoods on Saturday, April 29.
After posting a solid 7-7 preseason record, the Eagles have won just 1 of their first 12 Golden Valley Conference games, a 6-2 victory at Redwoods on March 24.
Five of their conference losses have been to league-leading Butte, which is 25-4 overall and 13-2 in the GVC. They've also lost 3 to the No. 2 team in conference, Feather River, which is 9-4 and the only team to defeat Butte in conference play.
Sophomore Connor Jones leads the Eagles with a .328 batting average and his team-leading .451 on base percentage ranks 9th among all GVC players.
Jones and infielder Taiyo Kurosawa are tied for second on the team with 19 hits. Outfielder Ryelen Samson leads the team with 20 hits and 16 runs scored and is tied for second among GVC players with 11 stolen bases.
Kurosawa has a team-high 9 extra base hits and 14 walks, while infielder/pitcher Callan Vreim leads the Eagles with 13 runs batted in, and outfielder Kadin Bolanos has a team-high 4 home runs.
Among GVC pitching statistical leaders, Eagles Carson Jones and Dante Bravo rank 7th and 8th, respectively, with 37 and 33 strikeouts.
