Pitching, 5-run rally lift Eagles to GVC win
After defeating Redwoods Friday for their first conference win of the season, the Eagle baseball team will play four rescheduled conference games at Butte this Thursday and Friday.
In a 6-2 win at Redwoods, Carson Jones struck out 8 and walked none in 5 innings, allowing only 5 hits and 2 unearned runs. Kameron Saucedo and Geoffrey Allen both pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief. Saucedo faced 8 batters and struck out 6 of them. Allen added 2 strikeouts to give the Eagle pitchers 16 for the game.
Redwoods held a 2-1 lead after 5 innings. The Eagles' lone run to that point came on a 4th inning home run by freshman right fielder Kadin Bolanos, his team-leading fourth homer of the season.
Then the offense ignited to score 5 runs in the 6th inning against Redwoods starter Shadd Jones. The rally featured three extra base hits, including a triple by freshman shortstop Dylann Battye that drove in Bolanos to tie the score at 2-2. Freshman second baseman Taiyo Kurosawa put the Eagles in front with a single that scored Battye, then third baseman Devyn Engdahl singled to drive in a run for a 4-2 lead. Catcher Connor Jones and leftfielder Dewitt Nunery followed with back-to-back run-scoring doubles.
The Eagles finished with 10 hits, 2 each by Connor Jones, Nunery, and Battye.
Siskiyous will take an 8-12 overall record into Thursday's games at Butte, which were rescheduled from February 25. Friday's games, originally scheduled to be Eagle home games, were moved because of snow on the field. Butte leads the GVC with a 7-2 record, while Feather Rivers is close behind at 6-2.
The Eagles are now scheduled to play their first home games Wednesday and Thursday, April 5 and 6, against Feather River. They'll then play single games at Feather River the following two days.
